Should I apply for that audition?
A contribution from Hauke Wendt. For most of the people who take part in them, auditions primarily mean pressure, stress and tension. Both sides of the table invest a lot of time, energy and effort in making auditions as effective, successful and short as possible - even if this is different depending on the perspective.
Auditions are time-consuming. They cost producers and participants at least time, money and nerves. Therefore, both sides should strive to keep the effort as low as possible for themselves and everyone else.
Certainly, producers and creative teams should always ask themselves whether artists really need to be invited again, whereas applicants who repeatedly ask themselves the question "why?" be given the advice that there is likely to be a good reason, even if you ... to mention just a few possible reasons, cover schedules, blocking dates, distribution of voices, the size of playing partners or the interplay of the actors are just a few of the key words.
But again and again the question comes up: "Should I apply for an audition date even if I already know that I would not accept an offer for the advertised production?" It is also about either gaining audition experience or "being seen" by certain creatives.

Please do not waste time unnecessarilyfrom producers and creatives, as well as from participants who have a serious interest in a job, and last but not least, your own time.
Audition experience is important and helpful, but honestly, an audition "just for fun" is very different from an audition where you are seriously looking for a job. And the impression you make on creatives when they want you and find out you weren't seriously interested in the job is certainly worse than the positive impression you wanted to make.
As always, of course, there is not only black and white in this question, but also corresponding shades of grey, but as so often: try to put yourself in the situation of your counterpart the next time you ask yourself whether you should apply for an audition appointment.
Yours, Hauke
